A quick note to LJ/6A: Tommy Oliver, as played here, is taken from the DinoThunder era of Power Rangers canon. THIS MEANS THAT HE IS APPROXIMATELY 28 YEARS OF AGE. A clear decade past minor-dom. So please, kindly, keep your ToSsing paws off of him.

A warrior. A legend. A messiah. All are terms that can be applied to Dr. Thomas Oliver. Since his less-than-honourable origins as Rita Repulsa's evil Green Ranger, Tommy has come far. He chose the side of good over the side of evil, lost his Powers, and then gained new ones. He has served on, and led, more teams than any other Ranger in history.

Tommy's not the oldest living Power Ranger, no. He's just the best.

After he graduated from high school, Tommy voluntarily relinquished his status as a Ranger on the Power Rangers Turbo team. He intended to put his Rangering days, along with his youth, behind him for good and pursue other interests. He left the active karate circuit (though continued to train), cut his hair and, after a time on the racing circuit, enrolled in college. He and his girlfriend Kat also parted ways not too long after, she having gone to study ballet in England and he being busy with university.

Tommy became utterly fascinated with dinosaurs and, after obtaining his college degree, pursued and obtained a doctorate in paleontology. He worked with scientist Anton Mercer on experiments centered around combining dinosaur and human DNA; Mercer, unbeknownst to Tommy, was turned into the monster Mesogog during an experiment gone awry. Mercer disappeared, and a concerned but stubborn Tommy continued the research until Mesogog destroyed the island laboratory that Tommy and Mercer had shared.

After the lab was destroyed, Tommy moved to Reefside, CA and took a job as a high school science teacher. Some time during the years between the lab's demise and his new job, Tommy discovered the Dino Gems and took them into his keeping, to protect them from harm. Three of his students, all Teenagers With Attitude, stumbled upon them when they accidentally made their way into the elaborate command center that Tommy had constructed beneath his house. The Gems chose the three teenagers and they gained the Powers of the Dino Thunder Power Rangers: Conner as the Red Ranger, Ethan as the Blue Ranger, and Kira as the Yellow Ranger.

It soon became clear that the Power had no plans for leaving Tommy alone. He became the mentor of the three new Rangers as soon as he discovered that the Power had bonded with them, and revealed that he had not only helped make the Tyrannodrones that were the Putties of the day (the creatures had been reprogrammed by Mesogog), but that he had helped create the new team's Zords as well. Only after Tommy had been kidnapped by Mesogog did the Rangers discover a video diary chronicling their mentor's history as a Power Ranger. The knowledge that their teacher was a fellow Ranger only strengthened their resolve to rescue Tommy.

Before they did so, however, Tommy was exposed to a fourth Dino Gem, one that chose him, bonded with his DNA and gifted him with the power of invisibility. After being rescued and confronted once again by Mesagog's henchmen, Zeltrax and Elsa, Tommy revealed the existence of the unique, key-operated Brachio Morpher. Turning the key, Tommy Morphed for the first time into the powerful Black Dino Thunder Power Ranger. After the battle, he confessed that he'd had his assistant Hayley build the Morpher on the hunch that he might need it; he was right. He is fiercely protective of his young charges, and self-sacrificing if the situation demands it. Tommy is undisputedly the strongest and most powerful of the Dino Rangers as well as the team leader, even though Conner may wear the Red uniform and possess the Power of the Triassic Ranger.

Tommy always wears a broad silver bracelet set with a large black gem around his left wrist, plus at least one article of black clothing. Because the Dino Power bonded with him at a genetic level, it has a strong interest in keeping him alive. Each Dino Thunder Ranger has unique abilities that are capable of manifesting of their own accord, in times of great stress or personal danger. For that reason, Tommy's Power may cause him to become invisible without warning, if it feels that he is being threatened more than it is comfortable with.

He enters the bar prior to the White Thunder mini-series, and while very used to being a Power Ranger is still breaking this latest set of abilities in. For the sake of explaining just how the Rangers get everywhere so quickly (because bikes and Raptors can only do so much), even though it is not shown in the PRDT series Tommy is able to teleport. This looks much like the original teleportation in the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series did, save that Tommy teleports with black and gold light. Remember Jason from Power Rangers Zeo? Yeah, it looks like that.
